As an artist, I am continually motivated to paint the landscape. I focus on color, balance, contrast and texture. I strive to create impressionist landscapes that portray the light and energy present at that moment in time. My goal is to render a rich visual reminder of the emotion a particular place evokes.

My passion for art began while growing up in Pennsylvania. During college and graduate school, artwork was secondary to obtaining a doctorate degree in pharmacy. After moving to Seattle in 1994, I began taking art classes in drawing and painting. These classes and the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest motivated me to pursue landscape painting.

The deep human connection I experience in wild and scenic areas inspires me. I enjoy sharing the early morning sun on the blue glacial waters of Alaska, the reflections in the surf on the Oregon Coast, the late afternoon light of a cold December day. In my paintings I attempt to capture and translate the fragility and beauty of these environments.

Art is an essential part of my being. The process of painting is a life-long practice of how to distill the enjoyment of art. Each new painting provides me with the opportunity to apply aspects that have been successful in the past while challenging me to learn and continue to be open to new ideas. The sense of place I gain by painting the landscape provides me with a bit of sanctuary in a world that can otherwise be full of turmoil. And I enjoy sharing this sense of place with others.
